THE CALL
Following the Christchurch attacks in New Zealand, YouTube partnered with the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) to combat the spread of hate content online. In support of the Christchurch Call to Action Summit, the government of New Zealand established an intensive workshop around the newly created shared crisis response protocol. The mission? Enhance our abilities to respond to extremist attacks with an online component. With a range of intricacies to consider for this event, our experience in large scale events allowed us to pave the way for a productive 2-day conference.
OUR RESPONSE
This was a true global event, uniting attendees from global tech giants, government officials, academia, and NGOs across 16+ countries. Former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern even served as our keynote speaker! With such a high caliber guest list, travel logistics could have been a nightmare. But Pinpoint navigated borders, time zones, visas and flight itineraries to ensure 120 diverse voices arrived and were ready to collaborate. These smooth arrivals allowed for our panels, general sessions, and scenario exercises to go off without a hitch at the iconic Wellington Opera House. We continued those conversations in a more relaxed setting complete with delicious local food vendors. While we can’t control what happens in the future, all stakeholders leaned in to help each other understand what was needed to be better prepared.
