THE CALL
Google’s Policy Roadshows hold a special place in Pinpoint’s heart. Why? Not only have we produced 200+ events across all 50 states over the last 8 years with them, they were also our first major client! By working with Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, we’ve created unique policy roadshows to showcase Google’s dedication to STEM learning, widespread access for students in need, and other important learning moments. While these events provide opportunities for policymakers to attend and shine a light on their communities, the real benefactors are the students we get to interact with.
OUR RESPONSE
Each roadshow addressed a very specific facet of the learning experience for young people. In order to effectively explore these topics, we constructed unique frameworks and creative approaches to ensure our messaging was clear and engaging. Here are 3 examples.
CS FIRST ROADSHOW
STEM can sometimes unveil new and interesting skills we never thought we’d have. We toured elementary-and-middle schools doing just that with Scratch, a tool we utilized to teach coding and other related skills. We put on our thinking caps to write the educational curriculum and complementary script for our tour facilitators. We didn’t stop there, though! Pinpoint designed a full touring set inclusive of all graphic assets, engaging presentations, and swag. To minimize life on each school, we provided all AV and IT support. Press in USA TODAY.
BE INTERNET AWESOME
We get it. It can be scary trying to ‘connect’ with kids… but we love a challenge! So, to refresh our 'Be Internet Awesome' roadshow, we introduced new activities including a password ‘face off’ game with algorithms to show each participant what their ‘hack score’ was. Overall, these refreshed elements increased moments of interaction, and infused the program with relevant cultural references. Our facilitators were already masters of improvisation but we equipped them with a conversational script that moved them away from lectures and towards engaging dialogues. The result? Students who were fully engaged with thoughtful questions of their own.
ROLLING STUDY HALLS ROADSHOW
For some students in more rural areas, their commutes home can be quite lengthy, that time is heavily underutilized. We designed a program to install WiFi on buses in these areas across the country to give students the opportunity to get a head start on their homework and simultaneously get STEM training. We hosted all ribbon cutting ceremonies but we wanted to show off our program in motion. Literally. Post ribbon cutting, we boarded the bus and were on the go with our local government officials! We wound things down with a press conference and an in-school workshop to introduce students to STEM and the plethora of jobs that would be available to them.
